I
presently have 7 felines and four large cages that act
as a nursery, bedroom, hospital and emergency
transportation in case of Global Warming Dangers.
Each
bedroom is self contained with food, water, sand box,
toys, heating pad and hammock.
This
hammock is made from an old towel and inexpensive
key rings that are easy to attach to the old towel and
wire cage.
Instructions
1)
Lay out any needed supplies such as needle,
thread, etc
You
will need "Heavy Duty" thread and/or string along with an
upholstery needle with an over large
eye for easy threading.
2)
Thread your
upholstery needle. I
always triple or quadruple my thread in order to
make my job go faster and give added strength
and support for cats.
3)
Now fold the four corners of your towel and tack each corner
together with a single stitch, this holds your fabric in place
making your life task easier.
4)
Insert your needle and create a strong loop... that is extra thick.
Remember, this loop is what will carry the weight of your cat in
sleep and play.
5)
Once your loop has been created and is strong enough for play, slip
on your key loop as shown below.
6)
In
the photo below, the
Red Arrows
indicate where a key ring has been attached to
the Threaded Loop, Towel and the Cage Wire.
Optional Decisions
The blue arrows indicate where the towel has
been allowed to drape downward for easy access
and also indicates open areas that can be
optionally sewn shut.
However, the
Long
Blue Arrow
to your left, should be left open in order to
slip a
heating pad in between the fabric for cold
winter nights.
The Red Arrows
indicate closed/sewn areas where a loop
has been made for hanging. (See Photo to
your Right Item #6)
Showing what
type of Key Loop to use for your project and what not to
use.
The second Key
Loop wears quickly and snaps open unexpectedly and should
not be used.
Make A Kitty Sock Toy
If you are
successful your cat/kitten should react something like
this...
To begin, grab
an old pair of socks that have just been washed.
You can either
use both socks for a heavy chewer or a single sock at your
option.
I use the best
sock for the outside since it will get the most wear.
The inner
sock will hold all the noise makers and stuffing that makes
the toy soft.
This double
layer of insulation helps to protect babies teeth.
When finished your toy
should look something like this...without Indies head in the way of
course.
Line up your noise makers inside a crumpled bag
and roll loosely.
Next, place your rolled noise makers in another
crumpled bag, only this time add scrapes of cloth to
give the toy a softness that will protect babies teeth.
(I use a thick, but smaller plastic bag that rustles and
will increases the toys noisy allure.)
Now
place the entire rolled mix into your first sock
(usually the one with the hole in it...lol)
Roll the exterior of the sock in a generous portion of
"Cosmic Catnip" and simply tie off the top of the sock
which closes it securely.
You
can stop here, or you can place this sock inside another
sock for added padding and protection with more catnip.
The choice is yours.
